You should tell your friend not to get back with someone just because she doesn't want to be single. Also, she shouldn't have broken up with him just because of that, she should have talked to him about it, because maybe he didn't know that she was so sensitive about that.

You sure have come to the right person, I LOVE reading! I can suggest some great books, and series for you. Here's the list: Peter and the Starchatchers, and the sequel, Peter and the Shadowtheives; the Redwall series, the trilogy of Eragon, Eldest, and Brisinger. There's a whole shelf and more, just dedicated to the Animorphs books which are in the King library. If I recall correctly, those where good books. Also, Eye of the Warlock, and books by that author are always good. The Series of Unfortunate Events, the Twilight series, also, books by Jack London are good. Consider Big Red and that series. I could list more, but I think that's good for now, if you need more, just ask me again. Always glad to help!

Hey people, I have not only been to Australia, but also to beautiful New Zealand. Anyways, it was awesome there because I got to see my Aunty, Uncle and my cousin. They live in a town called Nelson, which is right on the north coast of the South Island. The great thing about New Zealand is the food, great camera shots for memories and getting to actually travel there. It's a very pleasant place and nice when it's winter time. I love to go to my cousin's house because they have this beautiful backyard with a garden with all kinds of veggies and fruit trees. They also have this creek where eels jump out of the water with there mouths open! Scary!! It was fun though. They also have this really big tree where they attached a rope to swing onto the other side of the creek. Fun but very dangerous, especially when I fell off, but luckily I didn't hurt myself.

The best part about New Zealand is the 25 acres of land my uncle owns by the water. It's fun, and he said if we help build a house we could go and live there. How awesome is that? My uncle also owns a shop called Whirled Jewels. It's a genie type shop with lots of pretty jewels and mysterious items. I love New Zealand and I hope I can visit my relatives again some time this year. I hope you can experience this adventure too!

Hannah Montana is one of everybody's favorite shows on TV. Sadly though, Hannah Montana (aka Miley Cyrus) will be ending the show by her 18th birthday . She has worked on the show since she was 12 years old. That's 6 years of working with her two best friends, Oliver, (aka Mitchell Musso), and Lilly (aka Emily Osment). Her father on TV Robby Ray Stewart, (aka Billy Ray Cyrus) is her real father, "at least I hope everyone knows that!" Lastly is her older, yet freakisly non mature brother, Jackson Stewart, (aka Jason Earles). Since Hannah Montana, everyone from little cutie pie children to hard working adults love this show and will cherish the moments left in the hit series.H

Dear Irritated,

That is a complicated situation. Maybe you could stop bringing money to school, or maybe only bring the money you need, Just tell your friend, sorry, but you don't have any money with you or that you need the money you have. Otherwise, you could try talking to your friend, and telling her gently that you need your money, and her not being able to pay you back is starting to irritate you, and that she should try to see it from your perspective also... her lending a friend money, and then not getting paid back. Make sure to tell her though, that you still want to be her friend and are OK with lending her money, as long as she pays you back. You would appreciate that.

Once there was a villain named Anton. But most people called him Anton the Homework Annihilator. He was a bad boy, a bully, someone who loved to do bad things, and he was only 11 years old. Like all villains, he had his own evil lair, a GIANT DEATH RAY, and homework to do. Anton hated homework. It was useless, boring, educational, and it took time away from inventing EVIL THINGS. No villain liked homework.

One day, Anton decided to make his homework disappear. He could make things disappear by gesturing with his hands. Then he turned to his homework. He faced the math and reading homework assigned to him that day, gestured towards it, and commanded it to disappear!!!! It didn't!? But suddenly, his microscope was gone! He tried again, but nothing happened to his homework. He tried again and again and again! One by one, his evil (and some not so evil) possessions vanished. Anton's blueprints for a torture chamber, his punching gloves, his boxers and his teddy bear with a puffy pink tutu. Yet his homework remained. Anton gave up, figuring that the most villainous thing to do was to not do his work at all! The next day, Anton went to school and his teacher, Mrs. Chong, immediately asked him a question. "Why was a part of my house squashed by a GIANT DEATH RAY and some boxers that had "ANTON" written on it?"

I really like this girl in school, we would probably be a "couple" in high school. We have lots in common and we enjoy hanging out together. She is even planning out proms and stuff we can do together when we're at Castle. But, I found out that I got accepted to a private school next year and I doubt that I'll have time to continue our relationship in high school. I'll be focusing on sports since I have a sports scholarship. I haven't told her about it yet. I know it won't be easy on her--what do you think I should do?

Dear Stumped,

I think you should just explain that you really like her, but that you just found out that you got accepted to a private school. Also explain that you really want to continue the relationship, but doubt that you'll have much time to spend with her when you go to high school, and that you're really sorry. You both should spend as much time as possible together now, and try to keep in touch as much as possible when you go to high school. It would probably be better if you both went back to being friends in high school, because it will be really hard to try to keep that type of relationship running when you don't even see each other.
I can sympathize with you though, because a similar thing happened to me. I'm still friends with that guy, the only difference is that he got into a private school on academics. You should tell her that you're going to private school as soon as possible though, because the longer you wait, the harder it will get for you to tell her. You should really think over the exact details of what you want to say, and try to make the hit as soft as possible. I understand that this is a hard subject, but you should make sure that you tell her in person, instead of texting or anything like that. She will see your sincerity, and you will be able to discuss it more thoroughly. Again, I sympathize with your situation, and hope that you will at least be able to maintain a friendship with her when you go to high school.

Hush Hush, a book you might have mistakenly looked over. It’s a book you can’t beat! This book is for everyone, boys, girls, vampires, werewolves. Hush Hush is about a girl, Nora and a boy, Patch. Patch is not just any boy, he’s a fallen angel who has come down to earth to locate a certain kind of girl to fulfill his lifetime dream of becoming a human. Nora is not just any girl, she has a blood of an old god. Nora is a girl with a certain type of blood that Patch needs to become human, nothing more. But while in the process of killing her, he slowly falls in love with her. No, it’s not the typical corny love story, it’s actually a story of two people who hate each other, fall in love, but hate the fact that they are falling in love. And the rest is for you to find out!!! I give it 4 out of 5 stars!!!

THE LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU NEED TO DO IS- DO YOUR BEST ON THE TEST! After the HSA tests you can PARTY LIKE ANIMALS at the HSA "Last" Dance on April 29th. All you gotta do is have no ISS or suspensions and be present everyday of the HSA testing. Then you're all good! So be prepared and don't stress yourself out. CAN WE COUNT ON YOU?!?!?!

Hey all you wannabee travelers. Do you like to travel around the world? Well I sure do. As a matter of fact I have been to one specific place that I love, Australia. Australia is very splendid, beautiful, has awesome, tasty meatpies, vanilla slices and other foods, and has the most adorable animals I have EVER, EVER SEEN! I have been in my grandparents home and seen all the different types of birds in their backyard, like kookaburras, magpies, rainbow birds, and cockatoos!!! I have also been to Taranga Zoo, Opera House, and Luna Park. I was also in, and used a Phone Booth! As you can see I've been to a lot of places in Australia and I enjoyed it very much. Kangaroos and koalas are special animals in Australia along with wombats, emus, peacocks, tiny monkeys and platypuses. Have you ever been in or even seen a BIG, HUGE tree? Well, I have, and it was very scary but cool. If you know me I'm very short-EEK!!!! I love traveling, especially to Australia. I hope YOU get to experience the adventure, and excitement of Australia along with a bellyful of great foods that I had.

Congratulations to Castle High School's 2009 Kaulana yearbook staff. For the first time ever, Kaulana, Vol.64, placed in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association's (CSPA) Gold Circle Awards. Kaulana received FIRST PLACE for their Senior through Freshman people features and SECOND PLACE for theme and concept. This is quite a recognition because the CSPA receives over 10,000 entries. For the past three years, Kaulana has earned a Certificate of Merit for their people features.

Also, Castle's Kaulana is featured in Jostens national "Look Book," an honor that goes to only 520 yearbooks from more than 3,000 submissions.

My family prefers PCs and my dad's a computer programmer, so I trust his knowledge, but a good thing to do is to ask around about the pluses and minuses of Macs and PCs. You can also look online for the different programs they run, because that can make a big difference in your choice. Also, look at the different models of Macs and PCs, and decide that way. I agree, it is a hard decision, but if it where me, I would get a PC, only because my dad trusts that brand more, and he's the one I always go to when I have a question about computers.

Although table manners don't seem like much of a biggy right now, it will turn into an important life skill. What if, sometime in the future, you get invited to a formal dinner but don't know table manners. You could make a very bad impression on important people. It may not seem like a big thing but in actuality, it is. You should really try to listen to your parents and work on your table manners. I know that it can be irritating, but it's really important in the long run. Besides, what if you went on a date, and had no table manners.... it wouldn't be very impressive to the other person. Dear Klutzy,

It's not too late to get involved with sports. In 8th grade, you could take cross country. That way you can go at your own pace, and get you started with sports. You could also go in a sports club or something. Also, you could just go to a park with your friends, and play a game of dodgeball, or kickball with them, because they won't be too critical. Joining a sports team lets you meet new people, and make new friends. And remember, it's never too late to join a sport, and the cross country team at King is really good, because you can just go at your own pace.

Movie Review- Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Fans are going insane. Anticipation shining or angry fires burning in their eyes.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians the movie came to theaters on February 12, 2010, based off of the best selling book by Rick Riordan.

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is about a twelve year old boy named Percy that finds out that his father (once thought to be lost at sea) was actually the ancient Greek god, Poseidon. As he finds out more about himself, something even more astonishing occurs.

Zeus, King of the gods, thinks that Percy stole the Master Lightning Bolt, the most powerful weapon known to even the immortal, in order to overthrow Zeus and put his father on the throne.

Now Percy must find the bolt and clear both his and his father’s name by the winter solstice, along with saving his mother from the dark clutches of Hades.

In my personal opinion, the movie greatly differed from the book. The sequence of events was out of order, and the characters are not quite as they were written. Although, thinking from an open point of view, the movie was packed with action, humor, and overall a modern twist on Greek mythology.

Windsor Teens Face Fine For Swearing In School

Under a new campaign against bad language at Windsor High School, students caught swearing at a teacher or classmate will now be ticketed for creating a public disturbance, an infraction carrying that mouth-clamping fine.
Principal Russell Sills notified parents that town police in the school would start issuing the tickets this week.

Students "who use profanity directed toward a teacher, toward another student in class or during a verbal altercation in the hallway or cafeteria," will be ticketed, Sills informed parents in a letter dated Jan. 28.
When he introduced the policy at a student assembly last week, Sills said he emphasized that profanity simply has no place in a school.
"I told the kids we all know all these words. The reality is you make a conscious choice not to use those words here. We're hoping we don't have to hand out a lot of tickets."
No tickets had been issued as of Thursday, he said.
Student groups will lead an educational campaign designed to get students thinking hard before they cut loose with a stream of cuss words that could lighten their or their parents' wallets.
The ticketing policy received mixed reviews from students. Some said Thursday it was necessary and will change behavior. Others questioned its fairness.
"I don't have $103. That's too much. We've got enough problems already. I can't even afford lunch," said Tyshawn Hicks, a junior.
Sophomore Alisha Perreira, 15, said the size of the fine should certainly have an effect.
"It's a lot of money. I would learn my lesson not to swear anymore," she said.
Justin Borawski, a senior who learned Thursday that he had been accepted to West Point, said the amount of the fine was reasonable "especially when it comes to swearing at teachers."
Still other students complained that the policy was one-sided — that teachers who use profanity in front of students escape punishment.
The practice of having police ticket foul-mouthed students has been used at other area high schools, including Hartford Public and Bulkeley in Hartford, and was practiced at Windsor High in previous years.
"We've done this in the past on a number of occasions," said Windsor Police Chief Kevin Searles. "By issuing an infraction, it kind of alerts the youngster that, 'Hey, this is a serious thing you're doing and you have to be held accountable.' In the past it was very effective."
Students who receive tickets can pay their fines by mail; no court appearance is required unless there is a failure to pay or enter a plea.
An existing rule calling for a five-day suspension for swearing at a teacher also still applies to all students.
Gregory Carter, Windsor High's resource officer, recalled issuing tickets for profanity six years ago during a prior assignment at the high school. The problem with abusive language resurfaced at the school, he said, and it was felt that ticketing should be reinstituted.

Sills said the vast majority of parents and students who have spoken with him about the policy support it. He said no single incident prompted his decision.
"It's an area of concern we've had, something we're trying to tighten up," he said.
Carol Sama, president of the Windsor High School Parent-Teacher-Student Association, said that at the association's executive board meeting earlier this week, several members expressed some surprise over Sills' letter, since there had been no communication about what led up to it.
Asked whether she thought the ticketing policy will be effective, Sama said, "I guess you have to wait to see how it plays out."
Board of education President Milo "Rusty" Peck, who has a daughter attending the high school, said he has heard anecdotally of profane confrontations at the school and that the ticketing policy may force some parents to become more involved in their children's discipline.
"It was an attempt to help the atmosphere at the school. It brings forward the lessons of what is appropriate behavior," Peck said.

Ah, little siblings. A miracle and a disaster all in the same person. If a certain tiny person is running around causing irritability, what can one do without being grounded? Now I’m a younger sibling myself, and trust me, I know exactly how to get under their skin. Maybe I should start by explaining. We like bugging you. We want to get your attention. When’s the last time you even said hi to your brother? Maybe he’s lonely. We want you to think we’re funny. That’s why we act stupid. Although when it gets annoying– and I know it does– What you need to do is promise to spend time with them later. Then again, if you’re a bit of a fibber, your brother isn’t going to believe you, is he? No, you need to prove it. You need to actually spend time with them. Ew... Gross! I know. Little brothers. Yuck. If you honestly think that your brother is annoying, stupid, and only thinks, “Ooh! Shiny!” Then there’s a good chance that you don’t know them all that well. Spend some time with him. Be nice to him. Then maybe he’ll want to please you enough to leave when you ask him to.

Dear Shy One,

Best way to introduce yourself to someone, is to just go up to them, and say "Hi, my name is _______." It helps if you have a class with them though, because then you can say, "Hi, my name is __________. I'm in your __________ class." That's the easiest, most straighforeward way. And if they ask you why you're introducing yourself you can just say "I was just trying to be friendly."

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The Saudi religious police launched Thursday a nationwide crackdown on stores selling items that are red or in any other way allude to the banned celebrations of Valentine's Day, a Saudi official said.

Members of the feared religious police were inspecting shops for red roses, heart-shaped products or gifts wrapped in red, and ordering storeowners to get rid of them, the official said. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.

Red-colored or heart-shaped items are legal at other times of the year, but as Feb. 14 nears they become contraband in Saudi Arabia. The kingdom bans celebration of Western holidays such as Valentine's Day, named after a Christian saint said to have been martyred by the Romans in the 3rd Century.

Most shops in Riyadh's upscale neighborhoods have removed all red items from their shelves. A statement by the religious police, informally known as the muttawa, was published in Saudi newspapers, warning shop owners against any violations.

"Those who don't comply will be punished," the statement said, without spelling out what measures would befall the offenders.

The Valentine's Day prohibition is in line with Saudi's strict Wahhabi school of Islam that the kingdom has followed for more than a century. The birthplace of Islam also bans several Muslim holidays except the two most important ones because it considers them "religious innovations" that Islam doesn't sanction.

Even birthdays and Mother's Day are frowned on by the religious establishment, although people almost never get punished for celebrating them.

Many Saudis, who still want to mark the popular Valentine's, do their shopping weeks before the holiday.

Each year, the religious police mobilize ahead of Feb. 14 and descend on gift and flower shops, confiscating all red items, including flowers.

Attitudes toward Valentine's Day vary across the Arab world, with devout Muslims opposing the holiday as a Western celebration of romantic love that corrupts Muslim youth.

The Egyptian capital, Cairo, is a sharp contrast to the Saudi restrictions, with shops and restaurants going overboard in red ribbon and heart decorations.

Dubai, a conservative Muslim city-state with a Western outlook, is every year taken over by a Valentine craze. Luxury hotels are draped in red, offering romantic dinner specials. Malls and cafes are decorated with giant hearts and flower shops offer promotional deals on roses and fancy bouquets.

Apparently prompted by the Saudi ban, a group in the Philippines advocating the welfare of Filipino overseas workers -- a million of whom work in Saudi Arabia and another million elsewhere in the Middle East -- cautioned its countrymen to celebrate Valentine's Day only in private and refrain from publicly greeting anyone with "Happy Valentine's" across the region.

"We are urging fellow Filipinos in the Middle East, especially lovers, just to celebrate their Valentine's Day secretly and with utmost care," said John Leonard Monterona of the Migrante group.

He said the group advised against carrying anything that is red, including toys, hearts, and flowers, or even wearing red dresses or T-shirts. Instead, he urged Filipinos to visit Internet cafes to chat with their loved ones, give them a call or send text messages.

Dear Baby Sister,
    Having sisters that are that much older than you can be tough. With that kind of age difference, the older siblings tend to try to get away from you. They may think that your interests are pathetic, but you think that theirs are too intense. Knowing high schoolers, they’re probably overwhelming. Don’t be offended by that. About the mean things they say, older siblings do try to hurt your feelings. I won’t say that it was an accident. Although in truth, they never mean what they say. If you were gone, though it doesn’t seem like it, they would miss you. As for feeling dumb, their words will only work if you let them. The things they say can’t do anything unless you believe them. Just try not to get on their nerves and when they pick on you, don’t even try to defend yourself. Pretend that it’s not working, because in truth, the only reason they do that is to watch you squirm.

Anime and Manga.
Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably heard about Anime, the Japanese television shows that are based off of Japanese books called Manga. Intermediate schools are raving over the foreign humor and facial expressions drawn to impress fans just like them. Anime shown on television, is usually voiced over with people who speak English. The originals can be viewed on the internet at certain sites such as Anilinkz.com, which are usually subtitled. There’s something special about Manga. Manga are comic books, separated into panels, and you need to learn which order to read them in. Oh, and did I forget to mention? You read Manga backwards! “It’s kinda confusing at first,” says an everyday Manga fan.
“But you get used to it. After that, it’s addicting.”

KING COBRAS HOOP IT UP

Hello everyone. Let’s talk sports. This past Saturday, January 30, our King Cobras’ boys and girls basketball teams took the court and fought in games to do their best. Under the direction of coaches Ms. Kuraoka, Ms. Rodenhurst and Mr. Moore, the girl’s team gave their all and won both of our games. In the first game, we just made it with the final score of 16 to 15. We showed no mercy in our second game, winning by a whopping 7 points, making it 22 to 15.

The boys’ team had a big victory in our first game, overpowering the other team 30 to 14. However, we lost our second game to Kapolei, by the score of 35 to 28. But hey, all the boys put in their whole effort and they did an amazing job. We're proud of them! Coaches Mr. Rick and Mr. Choe will get them next time.

Speaking of Mr. Rick we had an exclusive interview to get a preview of his thoughts:

Q : Is it difficult to teach and coach?

A : No, coaching is one of my passions and in coaching involves some teaching.

Q : What is the best part of coaching?

A : The best part of coaching is seeing the look on their faces when we teach them a move or trick and they get to use it or accomplish it in the game.

Q : What would you improve?

A : I wish the players and just students in general would care more about everything. They could put more effort in things like their grades. Or at least try to improve their grades.

Dear Clothes Chicky,

Ross's is generally a cheap store that has stylish clothing, you just have to look for it. Also, second hand clothes are great, I get hand-me-downs all the time. Another thing is, you could look into getting a job, or offering to do more chores around the house, for more money, and that way , you don't have to worry about clothes being really cheap. I usually stick with the sales though. Also, what my grandparents do, is they take me birthday and Christmas shopping, but say that they're willing to spend a certain amount on the gifts, and that way, you get what you want for christmas/ your birthday.

OOps! Okay, you have a cool phone that does everything. Power in your hands to communicate, play games, listen to music, watch videos- what more can you ask for? The newest technology from Apple, all yours. Well, even though you have the coolest phone in the world it is vulnerable to, well, you. My poor baby, flung across the room, falling on the only possible place on our wall that could crack the face. Oh my! Call the Apple Store and they want what!!!! Two hundred bucks to fix the glass, no way, I'll live with it . A short time later, I was looking for my phone and it was nowhere to be found. I know it's around here someplace, I just had it. Then it struck me. I had it in my pant pocket which is now in the.......WASHING MACHINE! Yikes, I rush over to save it but, too late. It drowned. Submerged for more than four minutes. Brain dead. Shaking it vigourously, the cell phone equivalent of CPR, I detected no life. Water sloshing around inside, visible under the glass surface. I am devestated. I carefully remove the wet sim card and place it into an old phone. Cell phone organ donor.

Life is brought back into my old phone which will have to tide me over until I qualify to get a new, super duper phone from Apple. Darn those two year contracts. My dead iPhone, laying on my desk as a reminder to always empty my pockets before the wash. For over a month the corpse of a phone, my phone, laid face up on my desk. Eventually the water stopped bleeding out, and the water under the glass seemed to disappear, rigor mortis.
I noticed the charging cord still dangling off the side of my desk. I don't know why, but I snatched it up, plugged it into the mutilated phone, hoping that I could bring it back to life. The cell defibrillator, the charger, why hadn't I thought about it sooner? A second passed, then two. The white Apple logo appeared, the pulse became stronger until...
I'M ALIVE. My iPhone arose from the dead, all the icons were there in front of me. A miracle? No, an Apple. MrH

DJ class with Eric and Sheri Agustin and Dance Committee

A select group of Cobras have been attending a DJ class with instructor Eric Agustin. Eric is a professional DJ as well as the manager of Creative Sound in Kaneohe. Our upcoming school dance will be will have student DJs and will be planned by a dance committee. It's sure to be a fun event so make sure you're there!

Just announced today by Apple, the iPad. Think of it as a giant iTouch, watch movies, surf the internet, apps, read books, magazines and more. Starting at $499 in both Wi-Fi and 3G models, the iPad is the first of many new developments by Apple in 2010. Right around the corner we'll be seeing the new iPhone which is rumored to have a 5mb camera and 4G. With Apple being quite secretive, we'll have to wait for it to be officially announced to see what else the new iPhone will feature.

Dear Dizzy G,

You should try to tell them, "Hey, how come we always pick on that person?" and if they get mad, you can just say that you were just wondering, because you didn't see why they had to pick on that person, after all, what did he/she do to you guys? Also, you could just stop picking on that person, and see how the rest of your friends react to that. You might actually start to have a good influence on them, because maybe they feel the same way, but are too scared to do anything about it, but when they see you stopping, they might stop also. Another thing is, if they get mad at you for not picking on someone, then they aren't really that good of friends. I mean, think about it, them getting mad at you for not doing the right thing - not exactly the best friends ever. ~ Answer Girl

With the end of the third quarter practically around the corner, it's time to focus on school, prepare for the HSA tests and there are rumors of a school dance down the road. Lots to look forward to, and of course, only 11 months till Christmas.
